Luther Hospital was founded in 1908 by Norwegian Lutheran clergymen and served 195 patients within its first year. A Norwegian immigrant, Dr. Hans Christain Midelfart, opened the Midelfart Clinic in 1927, significantly expanding in 1995. In 1992, Luther Hospital and Midelfart Clinic, affiliated with the world-famous Mayo Foundation, joined to form Luther Midelfart’s regional medical center.
In 2011 Luther Midelfart changed its name to Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. Since then, they have grown to be one of Wisconsin’s largest multispecialty groups. They built a team consisting of more than 200 physicians in almost every medical specialty. Through this partnership, Mayo Clinic Health System provides patients with access to research, technology, and an abundance of resources funneled through the Mayo Clinic!
